Description: Problems accessing sa.education.gov.uk We were made aware of issues accessing this website yesterday afternoon. There has since been an announcement made on the website itself stating that the DFE are aware of an issue. A temporary workaround that seems to be successful - using a phone network (I.e. tethering) to connect a device to the website this way. More information can be found at: https://sa.education.gov.uk

Description: Searches to Google result in a "captcha form" having to be completed before results are provided. This is due to google seeing larger amounts of traffic than normal to their website. Their systems are putting additional checks in place to ensure traffic is legitimate. We have been advised by BLOXX support that this issue should resolve itself within 48 hours. Additional checks are taking place to ensure no infected devices are generating extra traffic.

Description: DDOS attack underway again. Networks team communicating with JANET about what can be done. Further tightening of the firewall DDOS protection has been put in place. Currently this is causing short periods of slow connectivity

Description: network outage has taken place. Investigations underway. This is on top of our internet feed being at full capacity today due to Microsoft "Patch tuesday" taking place overnight causing many devices to download updates. To mitigate the impact to schools, we are looking at ways to reduce traffic at peak times. Windows Updates are a major factor in generating traffic. Where possible, if you do not have your own Windows Update Server (WSUS), please encourage your IT Support technicians to use our central WSUS for all updates. Our server settings are http://wsus.bristol-cyps.org.uk port 8530. This should be a very simple configuration change which could improve speeds dramatically if implemented by the majority of schools. At present we host critical, security, definition & rollup updates and service packs for currently supported Windows OS’s and Office suites. If you believe your school will require updates that we are not currently supplying, please let the Helpdesk know.

Description: internet access affected by issue with web filtering system. Users seeing ICAP errors instead of webpages. This is due to an error with the anti-virus functionality within BLOXX. We have been advised to disable this feature while their support team investigate further. Please be aware that as of now BLOXX will not be scanning websites for viruses until we have a resolution.
