Description	During this period we experienced a sustained DDoS attack causing issues on our network.

2019-11-18 10:09:03 GMT	An update on our DDoS attack mitigation: We realise that it is important to share an update with you on what is being done to mitigate further DDoS attacks on our network. We are aware that it can be frustrating to receive no immediate feedback when issues occur, but can confirm that several changes are in the process of being implemented. Following conversations with our Networks team there are 3 specific areas we are focusing on: 1. Improvements are being made by Jisc (Our ISP) to improve identification of DDoS attacks sooner to reduce the time it takes to identify & stop them from their end: https://www.jisc.ac.uk/janet# 2. Improvements are being made to the BCC firewall to ensure it can better handle the volume of traffic it receives during the attacks. 3. Most importantly, changes will be made to the Schools Filtering solution so that the external IP addresses being used to access the internet are not always the same. We will contact schools directly about this change shortly.
